PROJECT PLANNING

PROJECT PLANNING AND LEADING

Summit Management’s most popular program! Combines both the technical and human dimensions of project management. In the morning of each of the two days we focus on planning, scheduling, estimating and managing multiple projects. In the afternoon participants learn about leadership, communication, motivation and teamwork.

PROJECT PLANNING

Participants learn how to develop and manage a useful and integrated project plan. Included are many of the classic tools for project planning and scheduling such as project charters, work breakdown structures (WBS), bar charts, network diagrams, responsibility assignment matrices (RAM’s) and critical path method (CPM). Techniques for estimating are covered as well earned value analysis (EVA) for determining and reporting project status.

PROJECT LEADERSHIP

This course is focused on helping project managers develop the leadership skills necessary to guide a project—and the project team—to successful project completion. Topics covered include managing without direct authority, motivation communication, teamwork, and leadership styles. Participants leave with insight into their leadership practices along with ideas on how to more productively guide teams toward accomplishing project objectives.

PROJECT EXECUTION

Provides project managers with the tools and techniques for managing efficient project execution along with gauging and reporting project status. Included are tools for performance measurement and variance analysis, scope control, estimating completion and speeding up project completion. Participants also learn how to build and maintain trust within the project team.

PROJECT NEGOTIATION AND CONFLICT SKILLS

Project managers commonly find themselves negotiating with customers, team members and other stakeholders. Routinely, project managers find conflict surfacing among these same parties. Negotiation and conflict management skills can make the difference between project success and failure. Project managers learn proven skills for negotiation, identify alternative conflict management approaches and receive feedback on their preferred conflict style.

MANAGING PORTFOLIOS AND PROJECT MANAGERS

Intended for executive audiences, this program helps leaders understand how portfolio management supports strategic execution. The key is selection of the appropriate projects (and project managers), providing them with the appropriate resources, and identifying appropriate metrics as a means for gauging success and for holding accountability.

STRATEGIC PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT

Aimed at Portfolio Managers, this program helps participants understand the role of the enterprise portfolio manager along with providing proven tools and skills for portfolio management. Participants learn how to link programs, projects and business initiatives to organizational strategy and determine the strategic value and fit of alternative programs and projects. Participants also learn how to exercise oversight and control and evaluate program effectiveness and business value achieved.

PROJECT TEAM DEVELOPMENT AND FACILITATION

Most work on most project is accomplished in teams. Summit Management brings its expertise in project management and process facilitation to bear on the unique needs of project teams. Project team development helps team members learn about themselves, their teammates, and working together effectively. We can also facilitate regular project team meetings to help teams focus on and accomplish expected results.

PROJECT MANAGER COACHING

Project managers are challenged to apply what they have learned in the classroom and through hard experience to their current projects.
